Connect a Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox

Create an app password and add a Gmail or Workspace mailbox to Mailnitrix in about five minutes.

· Mailnitrix team

Mailnitrix connects to Gmail and Google Workspace mailboxes with an app password: a separate 16-character password that only works for the app you create it for, and that you can revoke at any time.

Before you start

  • You need to be able to sign in to the Google account you're connecting.
  • 2-Step Verification must be on. Google only offers app passwords on accounts that use it.
  • On Google Workspace, your administrator must allow app passwords and IMAP. If you don't see the app passwords page, ask them.

Step 1: Turn on 2-Step Verification

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/security.
  2. Under How you sign in to Google, open 2-Step Verification and follow the steps.

Step 2: Create an app password

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/apppasswords.
  2. Enter a name you'll recognise, such as Mailnitrix, and select Create.
  3. Copy the 16-character password Google shows you. You won't see it again. The spaces don't matter.

Step 3: Add the mailbox in Mailnitrix

  1. In Mailnitrix, open Senders and add a new sender account.
  2. Enter the mailbox's email address and, optionally, the display name recipients should see.
  3. Paste the app password. The Gmail server settings are filled in for you:
SettingValue
SMTP hostsmtp.gmail.com
SMTP port587
IMAP host (for warmup)imap.gmail.com
IMAP port993
  1. Set a daily limit. For a brand-new mailbox, keep it low and let warmup raise campaign volume gradually. For an established mailbox, 30 to 40 is a sensible ceiling for cold email.
  2. Save, then run the connection test.

Next steps

  • Set up warmup so the mailbox builds reputation before your first campaign.
  • Make sure your domain has SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. In Google Workspace, DKIM is switched on in the admin console under Apps, Google Workspace, Gmail, Authenticate email.
  • Read Gmail sending limits to understand how much each mailbox should send.
